Apollo Bets Big on Abu Dhabi’s Alternative Asset Powerhouse

2 min read

In a move designed to accelerate its global expansion, Mubadala Capital has secured a strategic investment from the New York based giant Apollo. The deal involves Apollo taking a minority equity stake in the firm, marking a deepening of a long standing relationship between the two entities. Along with other strategic investors joining the fray, these partners are expected to commit an aggregate of five billion dollars toward Mubadala Capitals diverse investment strategies upon the initial closing.

Since its founding in 2011, Mubadala Capital has evolved into a formidable player in the alternative asset space, currently overseeing more than sixty billion dollars across five distinct strategies. By bringing Apollo on board as a shareholder, the firm aims to widen its pool of investors and hunt for new opportunities on a global scale. Despite this infusion of outside capital and influence, Mubadala Investment Company will remain the majority owner, ensuring that the platform retains its foundational roots while gaining international momentum.

Hani Barhoush, CEO of Mubadala Capital, described the partnership as a catalyst for the firms ambition to link worldwide capital with unique private market opportunities. He noted that Apollos reputation as one of the most respected institutions in the industry validates the strength and trajectory of the platform they have built in Abu Dhabi. Similarly, Apollo leadership highlighted their conviction in Mubadalas talented team and complementary network as key drivers for this decision.

The transition will not result in a change of command, as Mubadala Capital intends to operate independently with its current management team keeping full control over daily operations and investment choices. While several top tier financial and legal advisors helped steer the deal toward completion, everything now rests on final regulatory hurdles. The transaction is anticipated to officially close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
